Premium SMS services open up a variety of possibilities for content providers, application or service developers and marketers looking to monetize their mobile applications, services or payment solutions. Premium SMS works through the use of Short Codes (short, easy to remember phone numbers) and a corresponding tariff, typically between 25¢ and $5, that is assigned to each number. Mobile subscribers are reversed billed for these tariffs when they receive a Premium SMS message. The tariff charge automatically appears on the mobile user’s monthly bill or is deducted from their pre paid card and a portion of this revenue is then given to the owner of the short code on following payout terms as per country.
